Drachenstich-Festspiele (Slaying of the Dragon) in Furth im Wald
The Drachenstich (or Slaying of the Dragon) is the oldest traditional folk spectacle in Germany, held in Furth in the Bavarian Forest. Dating back 500 years, the event includes a re-enactment of the slaying of a dragon which threatened the town in the Middle Ages.
Furth im Wald is therefore also known as Drachenstadt (City of dragons). The history of this little town is full with legends and rituals and it is laid out in picture-perfect order. Each and every building seems to beckon with alluring facades and gorgeous interiors.
