...nestling between meadows, moorland and forests, lies in the Bavarian Alps at an elevation of 3,000 ft. With traditional Bavarian charm in architecture and lifestyle, with peasant theatre and peasant weddings, costumes and festivals, with traditional old houses and balconies overgrown with geraniums, the moorland spa has retained its village character.
The delightful terraces divide the idyllic location into two health cure areas, which are characterised by flower-bedecked cure hotels, farmhouses, cosy bed and breakfast hotels and guesthouses. The village lime tree reigns over the centre, inviting you to linger. Nature and health in perfect harmony: stimulating sub-alpine climate, clear alpine air and thick peat brew provide for health and physical well-being, nature and culture for mental and spiritual welfare.
Cura, the Latin expression for care and conditioning, defines exactly the effect of the Bad Kohlgrub healing agent, the thick brew of mountain pine peat of which the locals say it is the “black featherbed”. It promotes health and conditions the skin. The curative hyperthermia of a peat bath is particularly effective here, and works real miracles with rheumatism and joint ailments, spine problems and post-accident treatments. - Gynaecological problems, osteoporosis, rheumatism, arthrosis, gout and hormonal disorders are also treated here with success. Many cure guests also become regulars, because as well as the medically prescribed cures and open spa treatments, bathing cures in Bad Kohlgrub can also be booked at economical package prices, and thus do something for the health “in between”.
There are also various wellness packages to promote an “all-round feeling of well-being”, combined with champagne baths, “healthy and fit” cards, beauty treatments and much more.
The moorland village lies in a hiking area with a landscape of unique beauty, while the local mountain, the “Hörnle”, 5,000 ft., offers exhilarating mountain rambles.
For excursions there are Oberammergau, Garmisch with the Zugspitze, Ettal cloister, the Wieskirche church and the “Ludwig castles” Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. Guests with sporting ambitions delight in cycle tours, riding, tennis, table tennis and water sports, and in winter in downhill and cross-country skiing and Eisstockschiessen.
Does that arouse your interest? Welcome to Bad Kohlgrub the “village in the moorland”!
