Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg ob der Tauber on the Romantic Road is a world wide symbol of German romance. Artists have long taken inspiration from the unique location of this medieval town whose skyline with its 42 gates and towers is quite unmistakable. Nestling amidst beautiful, unspoiled countryside and still with a largely intact walkable town wall with medieval fortifications surrounding the historic center, Rothenburg with its winding alleyways and artistic treasures is the ideal place to relax.

There can hardly be another town of this size that has become such a meeting place of people from all over the world. Adding to the magical flair of this medieval gem is an annual calendar of diverse and atmospheric events. Why not visit the Imperial City Festival from September 7th – 9th, 2012, when the history of the town is vividly brought to life by a thousand or so people re-enacting scenes from the past. Friday evening gets underway with a torch-lit procession to the market square, organized by the historical society after which the historic town hall and arcades provide the backdrop for a spectacular firework display set to music.

As the year draws to a close, the town showcases itself in the most romantic of lights. With the picturesque town hall to one side and St Jacob’s church to the other, the "Reiterlesmarkt" (Nov 30 – Dec 23, 2012) is considered to be one of the most attractive Christmas markets anywhere in Germany.
