High above the Tauber valley set on an ancient section of Rothenburg’s city walls sits the Burg Hotel steeped in the magic of the historic wall and the serenity of the garden of the adjoining monastery. Outside are the most romantic and picturesque
nooks and corners whilst inside the elegance of a well-tended country house.
Today a listed building, the hotel was originally built in the 12th century in the grounds of the former Dominican monastery to house the town’s beadle. Between the nearby tower and the hotel is an idyllic terrace affording stunning views of the
verdant Tauber valley below whilst just a step away through an archway lies the enchanting monastery garden.
The breakfast room affords magnificent views over the Tauber valley some 80 meters below. Or when the weather is fine guests can enjoy their morning coffee and the panoramic views outside on the city wall terrace.
Each of the 15 romantically elegant rooms and suites affords a memorable view either of the Tauber valley or the adjoining monastery garden: Konstantin suite, the Tower suite, the Four-poster suite and the Bridal suite. Each room has been uniquely decorated in soft harmonious colours with great attention to detail. It is not just the hotel’s honeymoon guests that delight in the enormous carved four-poster bed. Many of the rooms enjoy breathtaking views of Rothenburg – one of Bavaria’s
principle attractions. The latest addition to the hotel is the private spa housed under the historic vaulted ceilings of the cellar.
The hotel owners focus on providing their guests with a range of musical entertainment including piano concerts in the vaulted cellar and singing and piano lessons. Guests residing in the Konstantin suite named in honour of the Bavarian singer songwriter Konstantin Wecker who once stayed here, enjoy not only all the facilities of the Burg Hotel but also have their own private piano. The hotel owner Jürgen Klatte himself a musician often entertains guests to pieces by Mozart, Schubert and Chopin on the 150 year old grand in the lounge.
