Strong Beer Time in Munich
Strong lent beer had already been served during this period of carneval since the mid 15th century.
Each of the Munich breweries brews its own strong beer during lent which has such melodious names as:
- Delicator (Hofbräuhaus),
- Triumphator (Löwenbräu)
- Animator (Hacker- Pschorr)
Paulaner monks brewed the famous "Salvator" strong beer and this is the reason why the tapping of the barrel is celebrated in the Salvator cellar at Nockherberg.
Everyone is there who is someone and no politicians are able to escape when it comes to "Derblecken", where politicians have to face their critics. The Märzen beer has been brewed since the October beer festival of 1871. Due to its high original gravity, this beer stays fresh longer than all other beers which were breed before it so that it can only be served during the festival.
