Romantic, natural, healthy – Bayerisches Staatsbad Bad Steben lies on the border with Thuringia in the middle of the low mountain landscape of the Nature Park Frankenwald. Bavaria’s northernmost public bath is best known for its health-promoting natural remedies such as radon, carbon dioxide or moor bath, as well as the soothing climate. For over 180 years, a mineral and mud spa and more than 1,000 years of mining – the resort can look back on a history rich in tradition. Coupled with the historic buildings in the town centre, numerous leisure activities and cultural attractions, a stay in Bad Steben is a refreshing and charming journey of discovery for body, mind and soul.

Our excursion tips:

Water worlds and health resources

In the modern thermal baths of Bad Steben, guests will find unusual bathing experiences over 10,000 sqm. Unique sound and light effects allow guests to experience different pools, grottoes as well as the relaxation gallery using all their senses. Adjacent areas such as the wellness dome with brine floating pool and Kneipp facility, the sauna area with a natural bathing pond and large sauna garden and the health centre of the Bad Steben spa complete the offer. Access to the pool of the large bathing hall and the radon baths at the health centre is possible with the help of a wheelchair and bath lift. Since 2018, an outdoor pool has been connected to the spa, which guests can enjoy in summer. Several swimming pools, slides and a spacious sunbathing lawn and sun decks ensure fun for children and adults alike. The outdoor pool also has wheelchair access and sanitary facilities.

In the midst of the green

The centrepiece of Bad Steben is the 40-hectare listed Kurpark with its historic columned Wandelhalle. Right next to this, visitors will find the well-known Klenzebau, which was built by the architect Leo von Klenze as a bath house. The Walhalla at Regensburg and Liberation Hall in Kelheim were also designed by him. The extensive green area is characterised by the meadow and temple springs as well as facilities such as the elegant spa building or the stylish music pavilions. These are stages for concerts, theatres, cabarets or readings. The south of the park is mostly characterised by its romantic rose garden and the baroque stone figures in the colourful and well-kept ornamental flowerbeds.

Feeling of happiness and atmosphere of well-being

If you want to spend a glamorous evening and try your luck at roulette, blackjack or a slot machine, head to the Bad Steben Casino. In addition, the art and culture foyer in the casino inspires visitors with captivating music events and thrilling performances by well-known cabaret artists.

You can spend the night in Bad Steben care-free in various accommodation. Away from the streets, yet still in the town centre, is the Villa Sonnenhof. The holiday apartment has barrier-free apartments and is located only a short distance from the spa facilities and the thermal baths. The family-run Gästehaus Bettina also offers a pleasant atmosphere for relaxing days in the Frankenwald (Franconian Forest).
