Impressive and massive. At over 2,700 metres, the Watzmann is not only the highest mountain in the Berchtesgaden Region, but also the emblem of the holiday region. This consists of the communities of Berchtesgaden, Schönau am Königssee, Ramsau, Bischofswiesen and Marktschellenberg. A majority of the villages and the local flora and fauna are protected by the Berchtesgaden National Park. It is also a promising destination for people with disabilities and families.

Our excursion tips:

Altitude and farsightedness

Breathe in the fresh mountain air and marvel at the breathtaking alpine panorama with fascinating mountain valleys. In complete comfort with the new Jenner Railway in Schönau am Königssee. Once at the top, there is a magnificent view of the emerald green lake. The mountain railway gives families with pushchairs, wheelchair users or guests with walking frames an unrestricted mountain experience. If you want to catch a glimpse of the alpine town of Bad Reichenhall and use folding mobility aids, you can take the listed Predigtstuhl cable car up the mountain. The highlight here is the traditional Predigtstuhl mountain restaurant with a large and inviting sun terrace. The views enhance the enjoyment of Bavarian delicacies.

Be active and amazed

Even on barrier-free hiking trails, nature in all its facets can be experienced up close. For example, on the circular route around the Höglwörther See in Anger or the idyllic forest path on Maisweg in Bavarian Gmain. An unforgettable experience for every age group. The wide and versatile Lake Königssee footpath is also perfect for this. Around the Lake Hintersee National Park Observatory is also the popular Klausbach Valley. Here, there are golden eagles and mountain huts, which is why it is also referred to as the valley of eagles and alpine pastures.

Experience nature and culture using all your senses

At the barrier-free Haus der Berge (mountain house), visitors can see, hear, feel or taste nature and learn something about it. For example, with the permanent exhibition “Vertical Wilderness”. If you want to go on an artistic journey of discovery, you can visit the Royal Spa House or the theatre in the Bad Reichenhall spa centre. Speciality mountain drinks can be found at the traditional Enzianbrennerei Grassl distillery in Berchtesgaden. Here spicy brandies and fruity liqueurs ensure a delight for the tastebuds. Guests will find relaxing times at the Watzmann Spa in Berchtesgaden or at the Rupertus-Therme Spa & Family Resort in Bad Reichenhall.
