The Franconian Lake District is as rich in contrasts as it is unifying: Whether you are handicapped or not, the Lake District provides recreational fun for everyone. Accessible waterfront paths and excursion boats as well as a wealth of nature entice you outside; accessible museums, sights and theatres cater for culture enthusiasts. Camping sites, hotels or holiday apartments: What is on offer in terms of accessible accommodation is as varied as the region itself!

Our excursion tips:

Boat trip and enjoyment of beer

Feel like you are on a cruise and enjoy some beer at the same time: On the "MS Brombachsee" visitors spend a relaxing time on the water. All decks on the ship can be accessed with a panorama wheelchair. Franconian cuisine can be savoured in the Seehof Beach Hotel. You can gain an insight into the world of hops and beer-brewing in the “HopfenBierGut” museum which can be accessed at ground level. Here you can experience how beer is created in a brewery course.

Have fun in the water and on the beach

The picturesque Lake Altmühlsee promises recreational fun around and on the water: After a round trip with the "MS Altmühlsee" visitors can be spoilt with culinary delights in the “Boat House”. On the western shore of Lake Altmühlsee, the Forest Lake Centre invites you to enjoy a relaxed day bathing. Beach wheelchairs can be hired free of charge at a total of seven hiring stations on Lake Altmühlsee, the Kleinen- und Großen Lake Brombachsee as well as Lake Rothsee.

Variety in nature

At the LBV Environmental Station at Lake Rothsee visitors can learn interesting facts about the habitats of water, sand and meadow. Visit the LBV Environmental Station at Lake Altmühlsee to discover the habitat of the birds at Lake Altmühlsee within an interactive and multi-media permanent exhibition. From the observation tower on Vogelinsel (Bird Island), which can be accessed by way of a ramp, visitors are treated to an impressive long-distance view of the shallow water zones with their diverse avarian world.
