When Axel Forelle talks about skis you don’t think about a lifeless piece of sports equipment made from fibreglass, steel and plastic; you think about a living thing. The ash core forms the “heart” of his skis. The special quality of this particularly straight wood, which is cut from the heart of the trunk, becomes the “soul”. And if that sounds too anthropomorphic, know this: Forelle knows what he is talking about. In 2009, he founded the Build2ride ski factory together with two friends. Since then, he has been crafting custom skis by hand for his clients, or he has been supervising them in workshops as they build their own winter sports equipment.
