Twinkling lights, local arts and crafts, the delicious fragrance of roasted apples and glühwein (hot mulled wine): the Fuessen Christmas Market is held in the festively illuminated monastery courtyard of St. Mang, which is in the heart of Fuessen’s historical town center.
The region all around Fuessen provides winter magic in one of Bavaria's most beautiful holiday landscapes. The snowy woods and hills, pure air, long periods of fine weather with crystal clear visibility in the mountains, many miles of cross-country skiing tracks, alpine skiing, ice skating on the numerous lakes and the opportunities for winter hikers are practically unlimited in this area. The paths around the lakes and along the River Lech guarantee enjoyable winter hikes. Mountain chalets attract hikers who, after their ascent, enjoy hearty meals of Allgäu regional specialities, followed by a wonderful toboggan ride back down into the valley.
The winter is also the best time to enjoy the cultural highlights of the region: experience the royal palaces of Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and Linderhof without the milling crowds of visitors of the summer months and absorb the unique atmosphere at the nearby Ettal Monastery, UNESCO World Heritage Wies Church or the cobblestone streets of Füssen's historic town center.
