The Imperial Courtyard of the Munich Residence will once again provide a setting for a lively Christmas village complete with chapel and life-size nativity scene. At this market there is a wide selection of traditional and unusual food and drinks such as tarte flambée, Baumstriezel (helix-shaped sweetened pastry topped with sugar and various other coatings) and Rahmfleckerl (flat bread topped with sour cream, bacon and chopped chives) to tempt the palate. At their various stands, numerous artisans demonstrate long-forgotten skills and on a round stage in the middle of the Imperial Courtyard there are live music performances, with a different programme every day. Children’s eyes light up at the sight of the 200-year-old sleigh with its reindeer and the fairy-tale forest with its speaking figures – the latter a unique feature in Munich. There are also puppet theatre performances.
