Dates 2020 cancelled!
Dates 2021: 9th to 11th JulyHundreds of thousands of visitors will descend on the ancient fortress town once more to take part in this huge carnival. They will dance, drum and party their way through the town. Musicians and dancers will be coming from all over Europe as well as Brazil to turn Coburg into a fiery cauldron of hot rhythms.
The samba party starts as early as 11:00 a.m.in the morning on Saturday; the groups will then go on to perform until after midnight, taking turns, on eight stages throughout the town centre: at An der Mauer, on the Albertsplatz square, in the upper and lower Steinweg, in the Hofgarten and Josiasgarten beer gardens, and on the Marktplatz and Schloßplatz squares. A samba night with samba, capoeira and power percussion will begin around 10:30 p.m. in the Kongresshaus Rosengarten venue.
The party continues on Sunday in a somewhat more sombre mode with an open-air service on the Marktplatz square before things get lively again in time for the samba parade. The parade goes through the town centre and starts at 2:00 p.m. After the parade, yet more samba shows will be performed on the main stages.
