Richard Wagner's former home "Wahnfried" and the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth have a whole new look to welcome visitors with an extension and twice the amount of exhibition space.
The Haus Wahnfried features exhibits concerning the life and works of Richard Wagner in 1880. The new-build is dedicated to the history of the Bayreuth Festival. It features a collection of historical stage set models, costumes and apparatus from the Bayreuth Festspielhaus. Various temporary exhibitions are also on display here. The Siegfried Wagner Haus is home to the living space of Winifred Wagner, and has been made accessible to the public for the very first time. Here visitors can find information about the relationship that the Wagner family had with the National Socialist regime.
The new museum complex also features an underground depot, a cinema, a museum shop and a café. In addition, the graves of Richard and Cosima Wagner can be found at the end of the garden near the courtyard garden. The hall in the Haus Wahnfried is also used for concerts, during which Richard Wagner's Steinway grand piano is played.
