Dates 2020: 19th - 28th JuneGarmisch-Partenkirchen was the adopted home of the composer Richard Strauss. Every year in early summer famous artists, ensembles and orchestras gather in the idyllic spa town and celebrate the composer with a top-class, internationally-respected festival which entices lovers of music from all over the world to Upper Bavaria. The festival is directed by a recognised Strauss expert whose entire artistic career is inextricably linked to the works of the great Bavarian: Singer for Excellence Brigitte Fassbaender.
Music lovers are offered a varied programme which invites you to discover the world of sound of Richard Strauss from morning to evening. Young artists such as the prizewinners of the Richard Strauss singing competition are showcased just as much as the outstanding recitalist Angelika Kirchschlager, the soprano Christiane Karg or virtuosos such as the pianist Mariam Batsashvili. Concerts given by the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish radio broadcasting service transport you into the composer’s intoxicating world of sound. And if you would like to stroll through Garmisch in the footsteps of Richard Strauss, the “Play Walk” will provide you with the right escort. Even the youngest visitors to the festival will not be short-changed. Exciting workshops and a children’s concert presented by Brigitte Fassbaender will make little ones interested in classical music.
