A trip through northern Franconia is a journey through time and pleasure. Where noble families once lived, the buildings are still imbued with a noble atmosphere today. Sun-drenched hillsides, historic vineyards and a trip to a brewery in Franconia all provide a warm welcome and an invitation to enjoy the priceless pleasures of the moment.
The routeThe starting point is in the municipality of Heroldsbach, which once belonged to the royal court of Forchheim and enjoys a colourful local history. On the route you will pass by Thurn Castle, which presides over parkland covering some 44 hectares and is an ideal location for relaxation and leisurely strolls. The castle parkland, with its ancient trees and magnificent ponds, and the historic rooms of the castle, are the perfect venue for exclusive events and celebrations. Thurn Castle, with 11 rooms and apartments for hire, offers top quality accommodation. Families will love spending some time in the adventure park at Thurn Castle. Some 66 kilometres further on you reach the state spa of Bad Steben. And not much further on, the idyllic natural hill range of the Haßberge comes into view. The country roads meander through a gently undulating landscape with romantic vineyards and medieval villages, ruined fortresses and castles. The local breweries and stylish vinoteques are an insider’s tip when it comes to real experience and enjoyment. The Königsberg castle ruins, the castle information centre at Altenstein and the FrankenTherme thermal baths in Bad Königshofen are all well worth a visit.
