A DAY FULL OF FASCINATING RITUALS
The Fähnrich carries the flag for the festive parade. During the act of remembrance in front of the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, he waves it above his head in memory of the origin of the custom and its founder. “For me, that’s the best moment of the day,” says Niclas Hennecke. However, the duties of the Fähnrich extend beyond Shrove Tuesday. For months beforehand, the chosen one is busy preparing and organising the festivities.
