Top ski resorts in Bavaria
Skiers can head to Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Here and in many other Bavarian ski resorts the snow is guaranteed from December to March. Or do you prefer smaller ski resorts? These are ideal for winter holidays with children and include the Grünten in the Allgäu, the Mitterfirmiansreut ski centre in the Bavarian Forest and Franconia’s Bischofsgrün.
From serious pistes through to gentle slopes, the winter sports resorts offer the appropriate terrain for experts and beginners alike. Ski schools and rental stations for skis and snowboards can also be found locally. Yet your ski holiday doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In Bavaria you can still find many cheap ski resorts and holiday resorts that provide special offers for skiers.
For refreshments before you head back out onto the piste, the mountain huts offer all manner of regional Bavarian delicacies: Schupfnudeln (potato dumplings) with cabbage, home-made soups, dumplings or Kaiserschmarrn pancakes: it’s hard to decide between them. No matter – you can always come back again the next day.
