Ski paradise on the Großer Arber in the Bavarian Forest
Whether you are a ski novice or a racing expert, the diverse ski region around the “King of the Bavarian Forest” offers lots of fun for ski and snowboard fans.
The ski region on the Großer Arber is known and loved in equal measure far and wide. It really does offer something for everyone. The Arber rightly counts as one of the top family ski areas in the world with its special ArBär children’s area with conveyor and time-trial stretch, the Family Cross-Park with small ramps and jumps and the Sonnenhang with chair lift for families and beginners. But not to worry – even Alpine professionals don’t have time to get bored here. With the Arber gondola – the only gondola in the Bavarian Forest – you can reach a point just below the 1,456 m summit. From there, routes of varying skill levels lead back down to the valley, including the black World Cup stretch, where national and international ski pros have tried their luck.
And those who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground rather than strapping on skis or boards will also find plenty to do here: Winter walking trails to and around the summit, toboggan runs and, last but not least, the rustic huts on the mountain and in the valley provide a whole lot of winter fun.
The whole ski area is avalanche-free and equipped with 4 conveyors, a Junior World Cup giant slalom, three drag lifts, two 6-person chair lifts, one 6-man gondola, floodlights, ski hire, a toboggan run, numerous places to eat or drink and a wonderful panoramic view from the highest peak in the Bavarian Forest.
