Tobogganing fun on the Geißkopf in the Bavarian Forest
One of Germany’s longest natural toboggan runs can be found on the Geißkopf.
In the Breitenau near Bischofsmais, between the Deggendorf region and Arberland, the Geißkopf rises to 1,097 m. With its modern lift facilities, the Geißkopf is not just popular with skiers but also with keen tobogganers: the 2 km natural toboggan run is one of the longest in Germany. If you don’t have a sledge of your own you can simply rent one on site and off you go.
A special treat: once you have raced down the hill at high speed, you can travel back up in comfort. The chair lift makes it easy to get back to the top of the toboggan run. Those who get hungry from all the fresh air and sledging fun can tuck into regional delicacies and innovative cuisine at the Geißkopfhütte on the summit – either in the rustic interior or, in fine weather, on the terrace with its panoramic view over the Bayerwald Mountains. In the valley, guests can expect a warm welcome at the cosy Forstgasthof. Fans of après-ski indulgence can simply visit the Pavillon near the central ticket office – festive ambience guaranteed.
As well as tobogganing experiences, there is a comprehensive range of activities for skiers on the Geißkopf: a conveyor belt, two rope lifts, five drag lifts and a single-seater chair lift to bring every toboggan fan to the right piste – children, beginners, experts or pros. Floodlight skiing and the Geisskopf Snow and Fun Park complete the offer. Winter walkers and cross-country skiers are also very well catered for here. A top winter sports area with everything you could hope to find.
