Splendid fruit trees are dotted around the landscape. Their crowns are large and expansive. Leaves flutter gently in the wind. Round about there is nothing but meadow. Insects hum. A group of people stroll through the orchards around Schöllkrippen in the Kahlgrund. At their head is Christof Lorenz. He is carrying pruning shears. The fruit grower explains to the group how to prune a fruit tree to keep it healthy for as long as possible. This Franconian native enjoys passing on his knowledge in pruning courses like this one. It is important to him to preserve the cultural landscape of the orchards: “It is an expression of our culture,” he says – and begins his careful cutting.
