The Royal House of Leiningen, one of the oldest noble families in Germany, has resided in Amorbach Royal Abbey in Odenwald since 1803. The Benedictine abbey's history dates back almost 1250 years.
Originally built in the romantic-gothic style, the site was rebuilt and expanded in the 18th century by way of grand baroque buildings. The abbey church stands in the centre of the large monastic complex, and features an enormous baroque organ. It is not just the dimensions of the instrument that impress, but also its acoustics. Over 5,100 pipes create a unique musical experience. And you can experience it for yourself at the annual "Amorbach Abbey Concerts".
In the abbey convent, you can find a number of grand halls, as well as a stunning library, which can be visited on tours. In addition, the rooms and the inner courtyards can be used as venues for celebrations and events. The large lake and garden, which was designed by renowned garden designer Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell, is perfect for enjoying a stroll. The park is open to the public all-year-round.
The Royal Abbey is currently in the hands of Andreas Prince of Leiningen and his wife, Alexandra Princess of Hanover, Great Britain and Ireland, Duchess of Braunschweig and Lüneburg.
