Living and breathing artMurnau and the beauty of the surrounding countryside have for centuries attracted many people to the region including such famous artists as Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter. The Art-Hotel is just as much a joy and inspiration to
the senses as was once Murnau’s “Russenhaus” at the time of the “Blaue Reiter”.
When you stay at the Art-Hotel Am Eichholz you are actually staying in the home of a landscape architect, a talented artist and gallery owner where art is a living part of life rather than just something to look at.
Staying at the Landhausvilla Eichholz is like sleeping in a 21st century “Russenhaus”. This Sightsleeping-Hotel is noted for its wonderfully atmospheric rooms and suites with paintings by Gina Feder adorning the walls and sculptures in the garden. Enter one room and you will be met by Antoni Tàpies, in another you will be greeted by a print by Tom Wesselmann.
Exhibitions, readings, concerts, painting and sculpting courses are all staged in the new glass extension. The Karl-Förster garden dating back to 1935 is still partially retained and is carefully tended by landscape architect Zentgraf. Directly adjacent to the Art-Hotel am Eichholz is Feder’s art gallery in Murnau where works of art by international artists – paintings, sculptures, photographs, objets d’art in wood, glass and ceramics are all on display. Next door is a wine bar showcasing wines from Italy, France and Spain and serving a range of Mediterranean dishes, antipasti, hors d’oeuvres and tapas.
Art lovers will no doubt also enjoy trips to the Murnau castle museum, the Münter Haus and the Buchheim Museum in Bernried. The lakes all around Murnau, the amazing panoramas of the Upper Bavarian mountains and of course the Zugspitze
itself all provide artists with plenty of motifs to encourage them to unpack their easels and start painting.
