A medieval castle with a 21st century lookSchlossparkhotel Mariakirchen designed by Michael Ulmer has already gained a reputation for being a successful symbiosis of traditional and modern. The public rooms reflect a clarity of geometric design with its most distinctive element being the glass facade which has a green tinted surface reflecting the lush green of the trees creating a flowing symbiosis between the park and the hotel.
The high quality natural materials and warm colours used in the hotel create a stimulating yet soothing atmosphere at one and the same time. Mariakirchen castle is a beautiful building with a range of wonderful frescos. The beautiful restored castle rooms also reflect this philosophy of marrying the old with the new: historic frescos sit comfortably side by side with works of art by contemporary graffiti artists.
Today the castle, built in 1550, not only provides guests with a great opportunity to get away from it all but is also the ideal location for conferences, cultural events and all sorts of celebrations. The Schlossparkhotel is just perfect for weddings with the romantic suite in the main tower of the castle rounding off a beautiful day off to perfection.
A small reception area, an espresso bar and the breakfast room are now all housed in the former garden house built in 1810. In the à la carte restaurant in the parlour on the ground floor of the castle chef de cuisine Martin Hochholzer conjures up a range of creative culinary delights for his guests combining traditional recipes with more modern elements of nouvelle cuisine. The atmosphere in the beer garden overlooking the castle is something quite special. The Mariakirchen brewery which reopened in 2003 is something of a hotly guarded secret on the real ale scene! The naturally cloudy, unfiltered lager is brewed on site according to age-old Bavarian brewing methods.
Of all the sights to visit in the region the one that must not be missed is the baroque church dedicated to the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also called the Kollbachtal cathedral, just a short walk from the hotel. The Asam brothers’ churches in Osterhofen and Aldersbach are also well worth a visit. Unforgettable hot air balloon trips can also be organised on request.
